Election Commission of Pakistan on Wednesday postponed the second phase elections of of Sindh local government by-elections in NA-245.
According to sources, a meeting was held with Chief Election Commissioner in which it was decided to postpone the second phase of Sindh local government elections on the request of Sindh Chief Secretary.
in a private meeting said the ECP postponed the election citing the expected period of downpours.
The second phase of Sindh LG elections will now be held at the end of August.
“In the second phase, elections were to be held in 16 districts of Karachi and Hyderabad divisions,” sources said, adding a summary of the postponement of local body elections in Sindh sent by the Sindh ECP chief secretary.
The chief secretary said in a report that heavy rains may occur in Sindh from July 22 and the second phase of local elections in Sindh has been scheduled for July 24.
On the other hand, the commission also postponed the by-elections of NA-245. The seat fell vacant after the death of famous televangelist and PTI leader Dr. Amir Liaquat Hussain.
